Finding home for our nation's pets

Happy Tails: ...and they lived happily ever after!

I found an older dog on the night of February 27, 2008.

With no collar I was unable to see who he belonged to. I secured the dog from running off and got to know him a little and found he was safe and healthy enough to bring into my home. The way he was responding to me I could tell he was a family dog and that he had some training like sit, stay, lay down, and a few others. His behavior made it clear that he had a family out there somewhere that he missed very much.

The next day I took a picture of him and added him to a few lost dog websites, one being Pets 911! Not even 15 minutes (LITERALLY) after I posted him on your site his lost family called me! After seeing proof (family photos) that this dog, Rookie, was theirs he was happily reunited with his family, only ONE day after he went missing.

If my story is to be shared I just want to make one thing clear…there is nothing special about me. I am an average 21 year old female who simply loves animals. I have no special training, or experience. I have had family dogs growing up, and I own one dog now.

My point is it doesn’t take anyone special with experience to do this. If you find a lost dog or any pet just take it slow. Get yourself comfortable with the animal, and get them comfortable with you. After finding this dog I sat outside with him for about an hour just talking to him and petting him, letting him know I wasn’t a threat.

This was the first lost animal I have EVER found. He had no collar, no tags, no microchip…NOTHING! It took two seconds to take his picture and five minutes to put him on your website! Five minutes and two seconds saved this pets life, and reunited him with his family! The hardest part was saying so long to a super sweet dog…but it was well worth it!

Also thank you for providing this service to the public. You are due as much credit and more. Without your site this pet would still be lost! Thank you for the opportunity to use your site with no charge, to help reunite lost pets with lost families!
